Bark review (2026): what the £1.80 credits really cost tradespeople, the three-month expiry, and a simpler alternative
Bark is the London marketplace where professionals buy credits at £1.80 each to contact customers who have posted a request, with the number of credits per lead set by the job. Credits bought since November 2025 expire after three months. It has 111,882 Trustpilot reviews at 3.8. Growth Bull is £69 a month for the Google review and ranking part, with no credits to buy.

Bark is a services marketplace rather than a trade directory: homeowners and businesses post a request for anything from a plumber to a wedding photographer, and professionals pay credits to respond. The credit price in the UK is £1.80, a lead costs a number of credits set by the job, and credits bought since November 2025 expire after three months. It is the most reviewed platform in this series, with 111,882 Trustpilot reviews at 3.8.
Growth Bull is a different spend: £69 a month of software that gets Google reviews from every paid invoice and tracks your rankings, so the enquiries that cost nothing per lead grow. This review is for the tradesperson weighing a credit-based marketplace against building their own Google presence.

Who are Bark and what do they sell?
Bark.com Global Limited (company number 10614196) was incorporated on 10 February 2017 under the name Bark.com (UK) Limited, took its current name in January 2018, and is registered at 167-169 Great Portland Street in London. The business is older than the company: Andrew Michael and Kai Feller founded it in 2014 and launched in January 2015, and according to Wikipedia it was acquired by private equity firm EMK Capital in April 2022 in a deal valued at £240 million. It operates in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore and South Africa.
What a professional gets is a feed of requests and a way to respond:
- Customers post a request describing what they need and where.
- Bark sends matching requests to professionals for free.
- To contact a customer you spend credits; you then get their phone number and email, and follow-up messages are free.
- Each request shows its credit cost before you respond, set by the service type and the size of the job.
Bark covers hundreds of categories, so trades sit alongside cleaners, tutors and personal trainers. Trades are one slice of a very large marketplace rather than the whole of it.
What does Bark cost and what is the commitment?
Bark's UK help centre gives the credit price as £1.80 per credit, with packs cheaper per credit than singles, and the pricing page says there is no commission and no hidden fees. The cost of a lead is the number of credits it needs, which Bark sets by service and job size and shows before you respond. Bark does not publish a table of credits per lead for trades, so we treat the typical cost per lead as not published; what is certain is that you pay to open the conversation, not to win the job.
Two terms matter. Credits bought from 1 November 2025 expire three months after purchase and are not refunded if unused, so a large pack bought for a discount can become a deadline. And Bark's pricing page promises that if you do not win business with your first credit pack it will return all your credits; that is a credit return, not cash, and it applies to the first pack.
In our view the maths is the same as any pay-per-lead service: the real figure is cost per won job. If you spend ten credits to reach five customers and one books, the lead cost is modest; if none reply, which Trustpilot's summary says happens, it is money gone.
What do customers say about Bark?
Bark has 111,882 reviews on Trustpilot with a TrustScore of 3.8: 67 percent five-star, 22 percent four-star and 8 percent one-star. Most reviewers are customers who hired someone. A recent five-star review reads "Great couple very helpful done a great job definitely will use them again" (Darrell Banks, Trustpilot, September 2026).
The one-star reviews are where the professionals are, and Trustpilot's summary of the whole set names the themes: communication issues, unresponsive leads and concerns about upfront fees without guaranteed results. Those are the risks to price in. We could not retrieve Google or Facebook review counts from public pages, so they are not published here.
Who does Bark suit?
Bark suits a professional whose customers already use marketplaces to request quotes and who can reply within minutes, because the first responders tend to get the conversation. For trades that are in effect services booked by comparison, such as cleaning, removals, garden maintenance, handyman work and small electrical or plumbing jobs, it can produce a steady flow, and there is no subscription to carry.
It suits a specialist trade or a high-value job less well. Larger jobs cost more credits, several professionals usually respond, and the customer may never answer. If you are not at your phone during the day, credits spent on requests you reach late are the most expensive leads of all.
Where Growth Bull fits instead
Growth Bull works on the enquiries that do not cost a credit. Growth Bull's Review Builder connects to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, HubSpot or Pipedrive and sends one text and one email asking for a Google review after every paid invoice. More Google reviews lift you in the map pack (the box of three businesses with a map at the top of Google), where a homeowner rings you directly. It is £69 a month, with a 7-day free trial and no contract.
Complete Growth at £129 a month adds Rank Map, which scans a grid of points around your town and names who holds number one for your trade; Keyword Tracker, which follows your search positions; and AI Visibility, which asks ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI who they recommend in your town and shows whether you are named.
Growth Bull does not send you requests to respond to. If you want quote requests this week, Bark provides them with no contract, and the two run well together: Bark for the requests, Growth Bull for the Google reviews that make the customer pick you.
Verdict
In our view, Bark is the easiest marketplace to start on and the hardest to budget for, because every contact costs credits, credits expire, and the customer may not reply. Buy a small pack first, reply fast, and keep a tally of cost per won job before you buy the big one.
If you want the free enquiries to grow alongside, Growth Bull's Review Builder is £69 a month with a 7-day free trial at growthbull.io/signup, or book a call with Tom.
Questions people ask
How much does Bark cost?
Bark's UK help centre states the current credit price as £1.80 per credit, with packs cheaper per credit than single credits. Each lead costs a number of credits set by the service type and the size of the job, shown before you respond, so a lead can cost anything from a few pounds to considerably more. There is no commission on the work. Credits bought from 1 November 2025 expire three months after purchase and unused credits are not refunded (checked October 2026).
Is Bark worth it for tradesmen?
Bark can work for trades whose customers request quotes through marketplaces, especially if you respond within minutes, because the first professionals to reply tend to get the conversation. The risks are paying credits for customers who never answer, and the three-month expiry pushing you to spend. Trustpilot's summary mentions both unresponsive leads and concerns about upfront fees. Track your cost per won job from the first pack.
Does Bark guarantee you will win work?
Bark's pricing page says it is so confident you will win business with your first credit pack that it will return all your credits if you do not, with no questions asked. That is a credit refund rather than a cash refund, and it applies to the first pack. Read the terms on the page before you rely on it.
Who owns Bark?
Bark.com Global Limited, company number 10614196, was incorporated on 10 February 2017 and is registered at Great Portland Street in London. The business was founded in 2014 by Andrew Michael and Kai Feller and launched in January 2015. Private equity firm EMK Capital acquired it in April 2022 in a deal reported at £240 million. Bark operates in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and several other countries.
Does Bark help with Google reviews?
No. Reviews on Bark live on your Bark profile and do not appear on your Google Business Profile, which is what shows in Google's map pack. If you want Google reviews you need to ask customers separately, which Growth Bull's Review Builder does automatically after every paid invoice.
What is a cheaper alternative to Bark?
If you would rather not buy credits, Growth Bull's Review Builder is £69 a month with a 7-day free trial and no contract. It asks every customer for a Google review after their invoice is paid, so the free enquiries from Google grow. Complete Growth at £129 a month adds map, keyword and AI visibility tracking. Plenty of trades run Bark for the quote requests and Growth Bull for the reviews.
