Growth Bull is the better choice for a local business that wants to grow its Google reviews and see the effect everywhere it shows up, while BrightLocal is the specialist pick for citation building and very large custom map grids. Growth Bull's Complete Growth, the all-in-one plan, costs £129 a month for every tool, and BrightLocal costs from around $41 a month for one location (checked October 2026).
Growth Bull is an all-in-one business growth suite built specifically for local businesses, such as contractors, trades, home service companies, salons, clinics and other service businesses. Its flagship tool, Review Builder, gets real Google reviews automatically after every paid invoice, and the rest of the suite tracks how that growth shows up on Google Maps, in Google search and in AI answers.
So which matters more to you: measuring your rankings in fine detail, or actively growing the reviews that move them? If reviews are the priority, our guide to the best review automation tools is worth a look. If map tracking is your focus, see Growth Bull vs Local Falcon for map rank tracking.

What is Growth Bull?
Growth Bull is an all-in-one business growth suite for local businesses such as contractors, trades and home service companies (plumbers, electricians, roofers, HVAC and heating engineers, builders, landscapers, cleaners), plus salons, barbers, dentists, clinics, accountants, solicitors, estate agents, mechanics and cafes, and the agencies that serve them. National and multi-location brands are a fit too.
The suite has four tools, with a fifth on the way:
- Review Builder, Growth Bull's flagship review automation tool, £69 a month, asks every customer for a Google review automatically after a paid invoice.
- Rank Map, £29 a month, is a Google Maps rank grid that shows where you appear in the map pack (the box of three businesses with a map at the top of Google).
- Keyword Tracker, from £17 a month, checks your Google rankings every morning from your own town or nationwide, on desktop or mobile, with every result kept forever.
- AI Visibility, £33 a month, is commercial AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI.
- Social Posting with AI, opening soon: write a post once (or let Growth Bull write it) and it goes out to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and your Google Business Profile at natural-looking times. "Plan my month" writes a month of posts from your own details in one press, and new 5-star reviews turn into thank-you posts automatically. It will be included free with Complete Growth and switch on automatically for Complete Growth accounts.
Around those tools sit the extras that make Review Builder feel effortless: a win-back campaign that asks past customers for reviews a few a day, a private feedback link for unhappy customers (never a gate), and a text every Friday with the reviews you gained that week. Missed-call text back and quote follow-ups are coming soon.
Complete Growth, the all-in-one plan, puts every tool in one hub for £129 a month. There's no contract, you can cancel any month, and every plan has a 7-day free trial.
What is BrightLocal?
BrightLocal is an established UK local SEO platform, run by BrightLocal Ltd, used by local businesses and marketing agencies.
It covers a map rank grid, a local rank tracker, AI visibility tracking, citation tools (a citation is any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website, such as a directory), review tools and white label reports. It is priced per location in US dollars, across three plans: Track, Manage and Grow.
Which tool is better at getting Google reviews?
Growth Bull is better at getting Google reviews automatically, because Review Builder starts every request from a paid invoice in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or FreeAgent, or a deal in HubSpot or Pipedrive.
BrightLocal does send review requests on its Grow plan, by email, SMS, in-store QR code and drip campaigns. It also monitors reviews across 80 or more sites, offers a review widget and lets you reply to Google and Facebook reviews with AI help.
The difference is how the customer gets into the system.
With BrightLocal, you add contacts by hand or upload a CSV file of up to 100 contacts at a time. We couldn't find a native invoicing or CRM trigger, and BrightLocal says it "does not integrate with Zapier yet". Someone has to remember to feed it.
With Growth Bull, you connect your accounts software once. Two hours after a job is paid, inside sending hours, the customer gets a text and an email with your Google review link, under your business name. If nobody clicks, one reminder goes three days later. Then it stops. You can also add a customer by hand in about ten seconds, or ask past customers a few a day with a win-back campaign.
Here's why that matters. The best review system is the one that still runs in your busiest week, when nobody has time to upload a spreadsheet.
Texts are the other gap. BrightLocal SMS uses credits, at around $0.10 a UK text, with 10 free credits per account. Review Builder includes 300 texts a month in its £69 price, plus email.
Both tools follow Google's review policy, which bans review gating (only sending happy customers to Google). Growth Bull sends everyone the same Google link. Unhappy customers also get a private feedback link to tell you first, but it is never a gate.
Why is Review Builder the big difference?
Review Builder is the feature that most separates Growth Bull from BrightLocal, and from rank trackers and reporting tools in general, because it doesn't just measure growth. It creates it.
- Owners can see it working. New Google reviews arrive every week, and a text every Friday lists the ones you gained. A ranking chart needs explaining; a fresh review from a customer you served on Tuesday doesn't. It's the one result every customer understands.
- More reviews mean more calls. Reviews are how customers choose who to call, and Google's own guidance lists prominence, including reviews and ratings, as a local ranking factor. So each new review works twice: it persuades the person reading it, and it helps you show up for the next search.
- For agencies and freelancers, it's a retention tool. Clients who watch their reviews and rankings climb under your agency's name stay longer. That helps reduce churn and raise client lifetime value, because you're delivering a result the client sees every week, not just a report once a month.
Ask yourself: which would your customers notice first, a new chart or ten new Google reviews?
Which is better for tracking the map pack?
Growth Bull's Rank Map gives a busy owner the clearest answer, because at every point where you aren't top it names the business that holds number one, while BrightLocal offers more grid sizes and custom spacing.
A rank grid (or geo-grid) is a map of dots around your business. Each dot shows where you rank when someone searches from that exact spot. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, as it explains in its guide to local ranking, so your position changes street by street.
Rank Map checks 49 points around your business, a 7x7 grid with points a mile apart, every week for the search you choose to track, with 5x5 or 9x9 optional. The first scan runs while you watch, you get a few "scan now" runs each week, and there are no credits to manage. Every scan is kept, so you can watch your top-three count climb as reviews come in.
BrightLocal's Local Search Grid is on every plan, runs weekly or monthly with no credits, and goes from 3x3 up to 15x15 with custom points. If you need to map a very large service area in fine detail, it goes deeper. For more grid options, see Growth Bull vs Whitespark Local Ranking Grids or the best local rank tracking tools.
Which is better for keyword tracking?
Growth Bull is better for daily keyword tracking, because Keyword Tracker checks your rankings every morning, while BrightLocal checks weekly or monthly and charges extra for daily.
Keyword tracking means checking where your website appears in Google's normal results when someone types a particular search, such as "emergency electrician near me".
Growth Bull's Keyword Tracker checks your Google rankings every morning from your own town or nationwide, on desktop or mobile, with every result kept forever. You see the change since yesterday, last week and last month, which page is ranking, and a 30-day line. It covers 10 keywords for £17 a month or 50 for £39, and Complete Growth includes the 50-keyword version.
BrightLocal's Local Rank Tracker goes wider: up to 100 keywords and 4 competitors per location, on Google and Bing, covering map pack and organic results, on desktop and mobile. If you want to watch named rivals across Bing too, that is a genuine strength.
Which tracks AI answers better?
Growth Bull's AI Visibility is the stronger commercial AI visibility tracking for a local business, because it asks ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI the buying questions customers actually ask, from your own town.
AI visibility means whether AI assistants recommend your business when someone asks, "Who's the best roofer near me?" More people now ask an assistant before they search.
Every Monday, AI Visibility asks five of those questions across three assistants, as someone in your town. It shows whether you're recommended, whether your website is cited, and who is recommended instead, with a visibility score per assistant over time. Every full answer is kept.
Growth Bull keeps AI visibility simple and commercial. It tracks the buying-intent questions that bring in leads, such as "Who's the best accountant in Leeds?" or "Which roofing company should I call?", on the assistants people actually use: ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI. It deliberately ignores lower-volume platforms such as Perplexity and Grok, so the score reflects where customers really ask, and it doesn't pad reports with vanity numbers like counts of every blog or source an AI cited.
Instead, it answers three lead-gen questions: were you recommended, was your website cited, and who was recommended instead? That ties AI visibility to leads and revenue rather than an abstract share of voice.
BrightLocal includes AI visibility on all plans, with up to 20 prompts per location across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, scored 0 to 100 against competitors. Its larger prompt set suits marketing teams that want breadth, but Claude isn't in its list. For the wider field, see the best AI visibility tools for local businesses.
How much do BrightLocal and Growth Bull cost?
Growth Bull's Complete Growth costs £129 a month for every tool in one hub, while BrightLocal costs around $41, $54 or $65 a month for one location (checked October 2026).
| What you get | BrightLocal (1 location) | Growth Bull |
|---|---|---|
| Review requests only | Not sold separately | Review Builder: £69/mo, 300 texts included |
| Tracking only (grid, keywords, AI) | Track: $41/mo | Rank Map £29 + Keyword Tracker £17 + AI Visibility £33 |
| Tracking plus listings tools | Manage: $54/mo | Not offered |
| Reviews plus every tracking tool | Grow: $65/mo, texts use credits | Complete Growth: £129/mo, everything included |
Prices per month, checked October 2026.
BrightLocal's annual billing saves 25%, bringing Grow to around $49 a month, and 2 to 5 locations on Grow cost around $87 a month. If you plan to text customers, add credits: 300 texts at about $0.10 each comes to roughly $30 a month.
Upgrading to Complete Growth is where Growth Bull outshines single-purpose tools. No competitor at this price combines invoice-triggered review requests with 300 texts included, a map rank grid, daily keyword tracking and commercial AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI in one hub. There's no contract, and you can cancel any month.
What about agencies and white label?
Growth Bull is also a white label platform: agencies and freelancers run every tool for every client under their own brand, with white label reports in their logo and colours sent automatically.
White label means reports carry your agency's branding, not the software company's. Growth Bull's Agency 5 plan costs £225 a month for five clients, and Agency 10 costs £425 a month for ten, with every client getting Review Builder, Rank Map, Keyword Tracker Plus and AI Visibility.
BrightLocal includes white label on all its plans, with logo, colours, automated email reports and a client portal. The question is what you sell: if clients pay you for review growth as well as reports, Growth Bull covers both. See Growth Bull for agencies and our roundup of white label SEO reporting tools.
Review Builder is also an agency's best retention tool. Clients who watch their reviews and rankings climb under your agency's name stay longer, which helps reduce churn and raise client lifetime value. Agency plans include up to 10 team logins and a client switcher, and win-back campaigns give a new client visible results in the first weeks.
Where BrightLocal is better
If you need specialist depth in a few areas, BrightLocal goes further.
- Citation building: BrightLocal tracks and builds citations, from about $2 to $3.20 per site, and you keep them. Growth Bull doesn't offer citations.
- Very large custom grids: its grid goes up to 15x15 with custom points and spacing, which suits mapping a big service area in fine detail.
- Bing and named competitors: its Local Rank Tracker covers Google and Bing with 4 competitors per location.
Where Growth Bull is better
Growth Bull is better wherever growth, rather than measurement alone, is the goal.
- Review Builder runs itself: review requests start from paid invoices in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, HubSpot or Pipedrive, so nobody has to upload a list.
- Results owners can see: new Google reviews arrive every week, with a text every Friday listing them, so owners feel the value and agencies keep clients longer.
- Texts included: 300 texts a month are in the Review Builder price, so you aren't topping up credits.
- Win-back from past customers: you can ask old customers too, a few a day, and anyone who has already reviewed is never asked again.
- Daily keyword tracking as standard: rankings checked every morning, with every result kept forever.
- Commercial AI visibility tracking with Claude: ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI, asked from your own town.
- Clear "who's beating me" answers: Rank Map names the business holding number one wherever you aren't.
- One hub, one price: Complete Growth puts every tool together for £129 a month, and Social Posting with AI joins it free when it opens.
Which should you choose?
It depends on what you need to happen each week.
If you're a roofer who invoices in Xero and has 30 reviews while your rivals have 200, choose Growth Bull. Reviews are your biggest lever, and Review Builder makes them arrive without you remembering to ask.
If you're an HVAC company invoicing in QuickBooks, Complete Growth gives you review automation, a weekly map, daily keyword tracking and AI visibility in one place, which is the full picture of how your growth shows up on Google.
If you're a dental clinic or salon, Review Builder turns every appointment paid through your accounts software into a review request, and AI Visibility shows whether assistants recommend you when locals ask.
If you're a national or multi-location brand finishing hundreds of jobs a month, Review Builder works at volume. Book a call with Tom to set up several locations.
If your main job is building citations across hundreds of directories, choose BrightLocal for that, and consider adding Review Builder on its own for invoice-triggered reviews.
