Growth Bull vs Semrush, local SEO suite compared, Growth Bull blog

Growth Bull is the better choice for a local business that wants more Google reviews and one clear view of its growth, while Semrush is the specialist pick for marketers tracking hundreds of keywords and managing listings. Growth Bull's Complete Growth, the all-in-one plan, costs $169 a month for every tool, while Semrush Local Pro alone costs around $60 a month per location, billed annually (checked October 2026), before Position Tracking or AI tracking.

Growth Bull is an all-in-one business growth suite built specifically for local businesses, such as contractors, home service companies, salons, clinics and other service businesses. Its flagship tool, Review Builder, gets real Google reviews automatically after every paid invoice, and the rest of the suite tracks how that growth shows up on Google Maps, in Google search and in AI answers.

So, are you running SEO as a job, or running a business that needs to grow? If you're weighing up local suites, our Growth Bull vs BrightLocal comparison covers the other big name. If keyword tracking is your main need, see the best keyword rank tracking tools in 2026.

What is Growth Bull?

Growth Bull is an all-in-one business growth suite for local businesses such as contractors and home service companies (plumbers, electricians, roofers, HVAC, builders, landscapers, cleaners), plus salons, barbers, dentists, clinics, accountants, attorneys, real estate agents, mechanics and cafes, and the agencies that serve them. National and multi-location brands are a fit too.

The suite, in order:

  1. Review Builder, Growth Bull's flagship review automation tool, $89 a month.
  2. Rank Map, a Google Maps rank grid, $39 a month.
  3. Keyword Tracker, daily keyword rank tracking, from $22 a month.
  4. AI Visibility, commercial AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI, $43 a month.
  5. Social Posting with AI, opening soon: write a post once (or let Growth Bull write it) and it goes out to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and your Google Business Profile at natural-looking times. "Plan my month" writes a month of posts from your own details in one press, and new 5-star reviews turn into thank-you posts automatically. It will be included free with Complete Growth and switch on automatically for Complete Growth accounts.

Around those tools sit the extras that make Review Builder feel effortless: a win-back campaign that asks past customers for reviews a few a day, a private feedback link for unhappy customers (never a gate), and a text every Friday with the reviews you gained that week. Missed-call text back and quote follow-ups are coming soon.

Complete Growth, the all-in-one plan, gives you every tool for $169 a month. There's no contract, you can cancel any month, and every plan has a 7-day free trial.

What is Semrush?

Semrush is one of the best-known SEO software suites, used by marketers and agencies around the world.

For local businesses, three parts matter. Semrush Local manages your Google Business Profile (the free listing that shows your business on Google Maps), with review tools and a map rank tracker. Position Tracking, part of the SEO plans, checks where your website ranks for chosen searches. The AI Visibility toolkit tracks how AI assistants talk about your brand. Each is priced separately in US dollars.

Which tool is better at getting Google reviews?

Growth Bull is better at getting Google reviews automatically, because Review Builder starts requests natively from paid invoices in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent, or from HubSpot and Pipedrive.

Semrush Local Pro does generate reviews, with automated SMS or email campaigns, 1,500 emails and 80 texts a month. Local Base doesn't include review generation, though it does offer review auto-replies.

The difference is the trigger.

In Semrush, contacts come in by manual entry or a file upload. To make a paid invoice start a request on its own, you'd connect Zapier, for example from a QuickBooks "invoice paid" event or a Jobber "job completed" event. We couldn't find a native Xero connector.

In Growth Bull, you connect your accounts software once. Two hours after a job is paid, inside sending hours, the customer gets a text and an email with your Google review link, under your business name. One reminder follows three days later only if nobody clicked, and then it stops. Anyone who has already reviewed is never asked again.

Texts matter too. Review Builder includes 300 texts a month plus email, against 80 on Semrush Local Pro. For a busy business sending a request after every job, that gap adds up fast.

Both follow Google's rules on soliciting reviews, which ban review gating (only inviting happy customers). Growth Bull sends everyone the same Google link, with a private feedback link for anyone unhappy, and it never filters.

Why is Review Builder the big difference?

Review Builder is the feature that most separates Growth Bull from Semrush, and from rank trackers and reporting tools in general, because it doesn't just measure growth. It creates it.

  • Owners can see it working. New Google reviews arrive every week, and a text every Friday lists the ones you gained. A ranking chart needs explaining; a fresh review from a customer you served on Tuesday doesn't. It's the one result every customer understands.
  • More reviews mean more calls. Reviews are how customers choose who to call, and Google's own guidance lists prominence, including reviews and ratings, as a local ranking factor. So each new review works twice: it persuades the person reading it, and it helps you show up for the next search.
  • For agencies and freelancers, it's a retention tool. Clients who watch their reviews and rankings climb under your agency's name stay longer. That helps reduce churn and raise client lifetime value, because you're delivering a result the client sees every week, not just a report once a month.

Ask yourself: which would your customers notice first, a new chart or ten new Google reviews?

Which is better for tracking the map pack?

Growth Bull's Rank Map is the simpler map tracker for an owner, with a flat price and no credits, and it names who holds number one wherever you aren't top; Semrush's Map Rank Tracker is more adjustable but runs on credits.

A map rank grid (or geo-grid) is a map of dots around your business, each showing where you rank when someone searches from that spot. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, so your position changes from street to street.

Rank Map checks 49 points, a 7x7 grid with points a mile apart, every week for the search you choose to track, with 5x5 or 9x9 optional. Every scan is kept, so you can see your top-three count rise as Review Builder brings in reviews.

Semrush's Map Rank Tracker offers an adjustable grid and distance, scans daily, weekly, monthly or on demand, and up to 100 keywords per campaign. One credit checks one pin, with 375 credits on Local Base and 1,225 on Local Pro. For dedicated grid tools, compare Growth Bull vs Local Falcon.

Which is better for keyword tracking?

Growth Bull's Keyword Tracker suits a local business watching its key searches every morning, while Semrush suits a marketer tracking 500 keywords or more.

Keyword tracking means checking where your website appears in Google for a chosen search, such as "loft conversion near me".

Keyword Tracker checks your Google rankings every morning from your own town or nationwide, on desktop or mobile, with every result kept forever. You see change since yesterday, last week and last month, plus which page ranks. It's $22 for 10 keywords or $49 for 50, and Complete Growth includes the 50-keyword plan.

Semrush's Position Tracking tracks 500 keywords daily on the SEO plan at around $139 a month (checked October 2026), at ZIP code level on mobile, tablet and desktop, and flags AI Overviews. Pro+ ($299) raises that to 1,500. For bulk tracking, also see Growth Bull vs SE Ranking.

Which tracks AI answers better?

Growth Bull's AI Visibility is commercial AI visibility tracking built for a local business: it asks ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI the buying questions customers actually ask, from the business's own town.

Picture a customer asking, "Who's the best roofer near me?" AI Visibility asks five questions like that across three assistants every Monday. It shows whether you're recommended, whether your website is cited, and who is recommended instead, for $43 a month.

Growth Bull keeps AI visibility simple and commercial. It tracks the buying-intent questions that bring in leads, such as "Who's the best accountant in Leeds?" or "Which roofing company should I call?", on the assistants people actually use: ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI. It deliberately ignores lower-volume platforms such as Perplexity and Grok, so the score reflects where customers really ask, and it doesn't pad reports with vanity numbers like counts of every blog or source an AI cited.

Instead, it answers three lead-gen questions: were you recommended, was your website cited, and who was recommended instead? That ties AI visibility to leads and revenue rather than an abstract share of voice.

Google says there's no special trick for its AI features, and normal SEO basics still apply. Reviews are part of those basics, which is why AI Visibility sits next to Review Builder.

Semrush's AI Visibility toolkit tracks 25 prompts daily across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity for around $99 a month per domain, billed annually (checked October 2026). Its larger, daily prompt set suits enterprise brand teams, but Claude isn't in its list. See the best AI visibility tools for local businesses for more.

How much do Semrush and Growth Bull cost?

Growth Bull's Complete Growth costs $169 a month for every tool, while the matching Semrush products add up to about $298 a month (checked October 2026).

What you need Semrush Growth Bull
Review requests Local Pro: $60/mo, per location, billed annually Review Builder: $89/mo
Map rank grid In Local Base $30/mo or Pro $60/mo, billed annually Rank Map: $39/mo
Keyword tracking SEO plan: $139/mo, 500 keywords Keyword Tracker: $22 or $49/mo
AI visibility AI Visibility toolkit: $99/mo, billed annually AI Visibility: $43/mo
Everything above About $298/mo Complete Growth: $169/mo

Prices per month, checked October 2026.

That bottom row is a rough sum of separate Semrush products, so treat it as a guide.

Upgrading to Complete Growth is where Growth Bull outshines single-purpose tools. No competitor at this price combines automated review requests, a map rank grid, daily keyword tracking and commercial AI visibility tracking in one hub, billed monthly with no contract. Third-party G2 reviewers often mention Semrush add-on costs and a learning curve as common complaints.

Which is easier for a busy owner?

Growth Bull is easier for a busy owner, because there is one hub, one price, and reviews that start themselves from your invoices.

Semrush is built for marketers. It is excellent, but there is a lot of it. If you'll log in between jobs or appointments, simple wins. Growth Bull also sends a text every Friday with the reviews you gained that week.

What about agencies and white label?

Growth Bull is also a white label platform: agencies and freelancers run every tool for every client under their own brand, with white label reports in their logo and colors sent automatically.

Agency 5 costs $289 a month for five clients, and Agency 10 costs $549 a month for ten. Every client gets Review Builder, Rank Map, Keyword Tracker Plus and AI Visibility.

Semrush offers white label reports through a Pro Report add-on at $20 a month per report, as its Agency Growth Kit has been discontinued. See Growth Bull for agencies and the best white label SEO tools.

Review Builder is also an agency's best retention tool. Clients who watch their reviews and rankings climb under your agency's name stay longer, which helps reduce churn and raise client lifetime value. Agency plans include up to 10 team logins and a client switcher, and win-back campaigns give a new client visible results in the first weeks.

Where Semrush is better

If you need specialist SEO depth, Semrush goes further.

  • Keyword tracking at very large scale: 500 keywords tracked daily at ZIP code level on the SEO plan.
  • Large prompt sets for brand teams: 25 prompts a day across more engines, including Gemini and Perplexity, which suits enterprise brand teams.
  • Listing management: Local Pro syncs your details across 70+ directories.

Where Growth Bull is better

Growth Bull is better wherever a local business wants to grow, not just measure.

  • Review Builder with native invoice triggers: requests start from paid invoices in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or FreeAgent, without Zapier.
  • Results owners can see: new Google reviews arrive every week, with a text every Friday listing them, so owners feel the value and agencies keep clients longer.
  • More texts included: 300 a month against 80 on Semrush Local Pro.
  • Everything in one hub for one price: Complete Growth covers reviews, map, keywords and AI for $169 a month.
  • Commercial AI visibility tracking with Claude: asked from your own town, showing who is recommended instead of you.
  • Who holds #1, named: Rank Map tells you exactly who to study, with no credits.
  • White label built in: every tool for every client under your brand, reports sent automatically.
  • Monthly, no annual bill: no contract, cancel any month.
  • Social Posting with AI on the way: included free with Complete Growth when it opens, posting to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and your Google Business Profile, and turning new 5-star reviews into thank-you posts.

Which should you choose?

Think about who will actually use it.

If you're an electrician who invoices in FreeAgent and wants more Google reviews without thinking about it, choose Growth Bull. Reviews come in on their own, and you see the effect on your map, keywords and AI answers.

If you're a roofing company invoicing in QuickBooks, Complete Growth gives you review automation, a weekly map, daily keyword tracking and AI visibility in one hub, for less than the separate Semrush products.

If you're a salon, clinic or law firm, Review Builder turns paid invoices into review requests and AI Visibility shows whether assistants recommend you locally.

If you're a national or multi-location brand, book a call with Tom to set up review automation across your locations.

If you have an in-house marketer running site audits and tracking hundreds of keywords, Semrush is the specialist tool for that work. Agencies can also compare the Growth Bull vs AgencyAnalytics reporting angle.
