The best review automation tool for local businesses in 2026 is Growth Bull. Its flagship tool, Review Builder, asks every customer for a Google review the moment their invoice is paid, by text and email, without you lifting a finger.
Growth Bull is an all-in-one business growth suite built specifically for local businesses, such as contractors, trades, home service companies, salons, clinics and other service businesses. Its flagship tool, Review Builder, gets real Google reviews automatically after every paid invoice, and the rest of the suite tracks how that growth shows up on Google Maps, in Google search and in AI answers.
Other tools on this list are excellent at one specific job. NiceJob is the specialist for businesses running Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan. Podium suits teams that want texting, webchat and payments in the same place. Birdeye is built for big multi-location brands, and Trustpilot for online shops. If you are weighing up two tools, our head-to-heads such as Growth Bull vs NiceJob for review automation and Growth Bull vs Trustpilot, Feefo and Trustist go deeper.

What is review automation, in plain English?
Review automation is software that asks your customers for a review automatically, usually by text or email, straight after you finish a job.
Most business owners know reviews matter. The problem is remembering to ask. You finish a boiler service, a haircut or a dental check-up, the next customer is waiting, and by the evening the moment has passed.
Review automation fixes that. You connect it to something you already use, such as your accounting software, and when an invoice is paid or a job is marked done, the tool sends the customer a short message with your review link. A good tool sends one polite reminder, then stops.
Why does this matter so much? Because most people find a local business through Google. Google's help page on how local results are ranked says they are based on relevance, distance and prominence, and your reviews are a visible part of how trusted you look. The star rating next to your name in the map pack (the box of three businesses with a map at the top of Google) comes from reviews on your Google Business Profile, which is your free business listing on Google.
What is review gating, and why does it break Google's rules?
Review gating means asking customers how happy they were first, then only sending the happy ones to leave a public Google review. Unhappy customers get pushed to a private form instead.
It sounds clever. It is also against the rules.
Google's policy on fake engagement and selective soliciting says businesses should not selectively ask customers for positive reviews. Filtering out unhappy customers is exactly that. If Google spots it, your reviews and your listing can be affected.
The safe approach is simple: give everyone the same review link. It is fine to also offer a private feedback option, as long as it never stands in front of the public review. We flag below which tools do this properly and which openly filter.
How we judged them
We ranked each tool on what matters most to local businesses such as contractors, trades and home service companies (plumbers, electricians, roofers, HVAC and heating engineers, builders, landscapers, cleaners), plus salons, barbers, dentists, clinics, accountants, solicitors, estate agents, mechanics and cafes, and the agencies that serve them.
- Where reviews end up. A review on your Google Business Profile helps you in Google Maps; a review on a separate platform helps elsewhere. We say which is which.
- Automatic triggers. Can a paid invoice or finished job send the request by itself, from accounting tools like Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and FreeAgent, or from field-service software?
- Texts as well as email. Many customers respond faster to a text than an email, so we note SMS allowances.
- Price and contract. The monthly price for one business, and whether you are locked into a year.
- Playing by Google's rules. Does the tool send everyone the same link, or does it filter?
- What else you get. Does the tool stop at reviews, or does it also show you whether those reviews are moving you up Google Maps, Google search and AI answers?
Prices are per month unless stated, in the currency each vendor uses, and were checked October 2026. Most tools here price in US dollars, so we give Growth Bull's dollar prices too.
1. Growth Bull (Review Builder)
Best for: the best all-in-one for local businesses that want Google reviews on autopilot, plus proof of what those reviews do.
Price: Review Builder costs £69 a month. Complete Growth, the all-in-one plan, costs £129 a month for every tool. No contract, cancel any month, 7-day free trial on every plan.
Review Builder, Growth Bull's flagship review automation tool, sends one text and one email with your Google review link after every finished job, under your business name. It goes out 2 hours after the job, inside sending hours, with one reminder 3 days later only if nobody clicked. Then it stops.
Review Builder is the feature that most separates Growth Bull from rank trackers and reporting tools. Business owners love it because they can see it working: new Google reviews arrive every week, the one result every customer understands. And more reviews mean more calls, because reviews are how customers choose who to call, and Google's own guidance lists prominence, including reviews and ratings, as a local ranking factor.
Here is why it ranks first:
- Paid-invoice triggers. Review Builder connects to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, HubSpot and Pipedrive, so the request goes out when you get paid, with nothing to remember. You can also add a customer by hand in about 10 seconds, or paste a list.
- 300 texts a month included. Texts are part of the price rather than an extra credit charge, which keeps your bill predictable.
- Inside Google's rules. Everyone gets the same Google link with no star filter. Unhappy customers also get a private feedback link to tell you first, but it is never a gate.
- Polite by design. Anyone who has already left a review is never asked again, and every message has a stop link.
- Win-back for past customers. A win-back campaign asks people you've already worked for, a few a day, so years of happy customers can finally show up on your listing.
- You see the results. The hub shows every request, click and review won, and you get a text every Friday with the reviews you gained.
Then there is the rest of the suite. Review Builder sits alongside Rank Map, Growth Bull's Google Maps rank grid, Keyword Tracker for daily keyword rank tracking, and AI Visibility for commercial AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI.
Social Posting with AI is opening soon. Write a post once, or let Growth Bull write it, and it goes out to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and your Google Business Profile at natural-looking times. "Plan my month" writes a month of posts from your own details in one press, and new 5-star reviews turn into thank-you posts automatically. It will be included free with Complete Growth and switches on automatically for Complete Growth accounts.
Upgrading to Complete Growth is where Growth Bull outshines single-purpose tools. No competitor at this price combines automated review requests, a map rank grid, daily keyword tracking and commercial AI visibility tracking in one hub. You collect the reviews, then watch them move you up the map, in search and in AI answers.
Growth Bull is also a white label platform: agencies and freelancers run every tool for every client under their own brand, with white label reports sent automatically and up to 10 team logins. For agencies, Review Builder is a retention tool. Clients who watch their reviews and rankings climb under the agency's name stay longer, which helps reduce churn and raise client lifetime value. National and multi-location brands are a fit too; book a call with Tom to set it up.
When a specialist goes deeper: Review Builder sends reviews to Google, so if you also need Trustpilot or Facebook reviews, or webchat and payments in the same tool, look at the specialists below.
2. NiceJob
Best for: businesses that run everything through field-service software such as Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan.

Price: Starter is around $75 a month, Pro is $125 a month. 14-day free trial, no card, no contracts.
NiceJob is a strong, like-for-like review automation tool with a very long list of integrations. It sends SMS and email review requests when a job is done or an invoice is created in your connected software, including Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, QuickBooks Online, Xero, FreshBooks, Square, Stripe and Zapier.
Pro adds repeat-customer reminders, referrals, email broadcasts and AI replies, which are genuinely useful for growing repeat work.
What it doesn't do: its cadence is fixed (never more than 3 emails and 1 text per campaign) and cannot be customised. Its Xero trigger fires when an invoice is created, not when it is paid. There is no map grid, keyword tracking or AI visibility tracking.
Who should skip it: businesses that want requests to fire on a paid invoice, or want to see their map and AI results in the same place. Read our full Growth Bull vs NiceJob comparison for the detail.
3. Podium
Best for: teams that want text-first review invites alongside a shared inbox, webchat, phones and payments.

Price: Core is $399 a month and Pro is $599 a month, from the figures embedded on its pricing page (the visible text says talk to sales). Extra fees apply for phones ($25 to $30 per user a month plus a $500 per location network fee) and 10DLC texting ($5 a month per location). It is mainly sold by demo, with no general free trial.
Podium sends text-first review invites with reminders, connects to 200+ tools including QuickBooks and HubSpot, and offers AI review responses. Around that sit an inbox, webchat, phones, text marketing, payments and an AI Employee, so it can run a lot of your customer messaging. Podium is sold in the US, Canada and Australia.
What it doesn't do: there is no rank tracking, keyword tracking, AI visibility tracking, listings or white label. The initial term is 12 months and auto-renews unless you give one month's notice, and leaving early means paying the rest of the term. Reviewers on G2 and Capterra mention price and difficulty cancelling (third-party).
Who should skip it: owners who mainly want Google reviews and do not need the messaging and payments side. See Growth Bull vs Podium for the detail.
4. GatherUp
Best for: businesses that want reviews plus customer feedback tools such as NPS (a simple "how likely are you to recommend us" score) and surveys.

Price: $99 a month for one location, around $79 billed annually. 14-day trial.
GatherUp includes up to 300 SMS and 3,000 email credits per location per month, which is generous. It monitors Google and 100+ other review sites, offers widgets and AI replies, and has a native QuickBooks Online trigger along with Salesforce, Mailchimp, Google Sheets, Toast, Zapier, webhooks and an API.
What it doesn't do: no Xero, Sage, FreeAgent or Jobber connection is listed, and there is no rank tracking. Reviewers on G2 mention integration gaps and a price that feels high for small businesses (third-party).
Who should skip it: a small business on Xero that just wants Google reviews. Our Growth Bull vs GatherUp comparison explains the trade-offs.
5. BrightLocal Grow
Best for: businesses that want review requests alongside citation building and deep local and organic tracking.

Price: Grow is $65 a month for one location monthly, or about $49 billed annually. 14-day free trial, no card, cancel any time.
BrightLocal's Grow plan sends review requests by email, SMS, in-store QR code and drip campaigns. It monitors reviews on 80+ sites, offers a review widget, and lets you reply to Google and Facebook reviews with AI help. You also get its Local Search Grid, AI visibility tracking and citation tools.
What it doesn't do: contacts are added by hand or by CSV (up to 100 per file), and there is no native invoicing or CRM trigger and no Zapier connection yet. SMS is paid for with credits.
Who should skip it: owners who want requests to go out automatically from their accounts software. See Growth Bull vs BrightLocal for all-in-one local SEO.
6. Grade.us
Best for: agencies reselling review management on its own.

Price: Small Business is $124 a month monthly or $99 annually. Agency plans start from $400 a month with a minimum of 10 seats. 14-day trial, no card.
Grade.us sends email, SMS and MMS review requests in campaigns and sequences. Its standout is white label, which means you can put your own agency brand on it instead of theirs. Basic white label is free on all plans, including a custom domain, emails and reports. It connects through an API, Zapier and a WordPress plugin.
What it doesn't do: there is no native Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent or Jobber trigger, no rank tracking and no AI visibility. Its SMS allowance is not published.
Who should skip it: single businesses who want something simple, and agencies that also sell rank tracking. Our Growth Bull vs Grade.us comparison for agencies covers the agency angle.
7. Semrush Local Pro
Best for: teams already paying for Semrush who want reviews in the same account.

Price: Local Pro is $60 a month per location, billed annually. A monthly-billed price is not shown.
Semrush Local Pro adds "review management and generation" to listing management across 70+ directories and a map rank tracker. Review generation runs automated SMS or email campaigns, with 1,500 emails and 80 SMS a month.
What it doesn't do: automatic triggers only work through Zapier (for example a QuickBooks "invoice paid" or Jobber "job completed"), and no native Xero connector was found. Eighty texts a month is modest for a busy business.
Who should skip it: owners who are not already Semrush users. More in Growth Bull vs Semrush Local.
8. Birdeye
Best for: multi-location brands that want reviews, listings, webchat, payments and social in one big platform.

Price: no public prices; you request a quote. Third-party estimates (CostBench, August 2026) put plans at around $299 to $449 per location per month. 30-day free trial.
Birdeye is powerful. It sends review requests by email and text, triggers from events such as a payment completed, and connects to 3,000+ tools including Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Square and Toast. Its terms ban review gating, and it monitors reviews from every site.
What it doesn't do well for small firms: contracts auto-renew for the same term unless you give notice at least 90 days before renewal. Reviewers on Capterra mention difficulty cancelling and a high price for small teams (third-party).
Who should skip it: sole traders and small teams. See Growth Bull vs Birdeye for enterprise reputation.
9. Trustpilot
Best for: online shops that want a recognised trust badge on their website and checkout.

Price: free plan with 50 invitations a month. Starter is £119 a month per domain billed annually, Plus is £289 a month billed annually upfront. All contracts are a 12-month commitment.
Trustpilot is well known with online shoppers and integrates with Shopify, HubSpot, Salesforce and Zendesk.
What it doesn't do: reviews go to Trustpilot's own platform, not your Google Business Profile, so they do not change your Google Maps star rating. Invitations are by email, with no SMS feature listed.
Who should skip it: local businesses that need Google reviews. We explain the difference in Growth Bull vs Trustpilot.
10. Feefo
Best for: ecommerce brands that want verified reviews and Google Seller Ratings.

Price: Essentials is £149 a month (200 email, 50 WhatsApp and 50 SMS requests); Enhanced is £299 a month. Contract terms are not published.
Feefo collects reviews on its own verified platform and is built around ecommerce integrations.
What it doesn't do: like Trustpilot, its reviews do not go to your Google Business Profile.
Who should skip it: local businesses focused on Google Maps.
11. Trustist
Best for: businesses happy to commit for a year in exchange for a low monthly price.

Price: Starter is £39 a month on a one-year contract, cheaper on three- and five-year terms. Pro is £159 and Premium £199. Minimum 12-month contract.
Trustist sends review links by SMS, email, social and QR code, and reviews can go to Google, Facebook and Trustist's own platform.
What it doesn't do: accounting software triggers are not listed on its fees page, and the minimum contract is 12 months.
Who should skip it: anyone who wants to pay month to month.
12. Trustindex
Best for: very tight budgets where email-only requests are enough.

Price: free plan, then Single at $65 a year, Pro at $125 a year for 5 companies and Ultimate at $349 a year.
Trustindex is very cheap, lists Xero and QuickBooks triggers, and offers review widgets for 133 platforms. Invitations are by email, plus QR and NFC (tap-to-review) cards.
What it doesn't do: there are no text message requests.
Who should skip it: businesses whose customers rarely open email.
13. Grow Our Reviews
Best for: we would not recommend it for Google reviews, for one specific reason.
Price: Lite £9 a month (20 credits), Starter £29 (100), Growth £49 (200), Pro £99 (500). 7-day trial, cancel any time.
Grow Our Reviews is an SMS review tool with low prices. No integrations are listed.
The issue: its own site says "Only happy ones go to Google". That is review gating, which Google's policies prohibit. If you use any tool like this, make sure every customer is offered the same public review link.
How to choose
Start with one question: where do you want your reviews to appear?
If the answer is Google Maps, because that is where your customers find you, pick a tool that sends everyone your Google review link. Then match it to the software you use and what else you want to see.
If you're a local business that invoices in Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or FreeAgent, Review Builder is the simplest fit: paid-invoice triggers, 300 texts included and no contract, for £69 a month.
If you want reviews and proof they're working in one place, Complete Growth, the all-in-one plan, adds a map rank grid, daily keyword tracking and commercial AI visibility tracking for £129 a month, with Social Posting with AI included free when it opens.
If you run your whole business through Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan, NiceJob's native field-service integrations are its specialist strength.
If you want texting, webchat and payments alongside reviews, Podium is worth a demo, as long as you are comfortable with a 12-month term.
If you're a multi-location brand finishing hundreds of jobs a month, Birdeye is built as one big platform, while Growth Bull turns every paid invoice into a review request at volume without a long contract. Book a call with Tom to talk through a multi-branch set-up.
If you're an online shop, Trustpilot or Feefo may suit you better, because their badges are built for checkout pages.
If you're an agency, Growth Bull is also a white label platform, giving every client review automation plus tracking under your brand. Clients who see new reviews every week stay longer, which helps reduce churn and raise client lifetime value. Grade.us is built for reselling reviews alone. Our guide to the best white label SEO tools for agencies covers that side.
And whatever you choose, check it does not filter unhappy customers away from Google. It is not worth the risk.
Once reviews are flowing, you will want to see whether they move you up the map. Our roundup of the best local rank tracking tools explains how map tracking works, and our guide to the best AI visibility tools for local businesses covers whether ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI recommend you.
Ready to start? Growth Bull has a 7-day free trial on every plan at growthbull.io/signup, or you can book a call with Tom at growthbull.io/book to talk through your set-up. Trade businesses can also ask about the Trade100 Club, which includes a free website rebuild and a 30-day trial with a win-back campaign for past customers.
Questions people ask
What is review automation?
Review automation is software that asks your customers for a review without you having to remember. For a plumber, roofer, salon or clinic, a finished job or paid invoice in your other software triggers a text or email with your Google review link, then one reminder if needed. The aim is a steady, natural flow of reviews.
What is the best review automation tool for local businesses?
Growth Bull is our top pick for local businesses. Review Builder, Growth Bull's flagship review automation tool, sends a text and an email with your Google review link after every paid invoice, with 300 texts a month included and no contract, for £69 a month. Complete Growth adds map, keyword and AI visibility tracking.
Which review tool works with Xero?
Growth Bull's Review Builder triggers a review request from a paid invoice in Xero, and also connects to QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent, HubSpot and Pipedrive. NiceJob connects to Xero but triggers when an invoice is created. Trustindex lists Xero and QuickBooks triggers. GatherUp, Grade.us and BrightLocal do not list a native Xero connector.
Is review gating allowed by Google?
No. Review gating means only sending happy customers to your public Google review page, and Google's policy on selective soliciting does not allow it. The safe approach is to give every customer the same review link. A private feedback option is fine as long as it never stands in front of the public review.
Do Trustpilot reviews help my Google Maps ranking?
Trustpilot reviews stay on Trustpilot's own platform, so they do not appear on your Google Business Profile or change the star rating shown in Google Maps. For local businesses found through Google, a tool that sends customers to your Google review link is usually the better first step.
Why is review automation good for agencies?
Because clients can see it working. New Google reviews arrive every week under the agency's name, which is a result every business owner understands. Clients who watch their reviews and rankings climb tend to stay longer, so a tool like Growth Bull's Review Builder helps agencies reduce churn and raise client lifetime value.
How many texts do I need a month?
Roughly one per finished job, plus the odd reminder. A business finishing 10 jobs a week needs about 40 to 50 texts a month. Growth Bull's Review Builder includes 300 texts a month, GatherUp up to 300 SMS per location, and BrightLocal charges for SMS through credits.
